That's great, and I can't speak to other sports in the same way, but

in less than ten minutes of watching a team play, I can tell you who has most likely played travel volleyball and who has not. There's nothing wrong with not playing travel, but nobody gets recruited to college just from watching them play high school, unless they are over 6'2". Then maybe just based on height, but typically no. To play at the upper levels, it's not just athletic ability or physical stats like height, it's knowing how to get into position to make that perfect pass before the ball is even hit your way, set that quick shoot without giving away that's the person you're setting, knowing how to hit around the block, or eliminating angles by blocking based on the read of the hitter's approach.

Saying anybody can play volleyball for 3 months on a high school team would be as good as the player that playing almost year round is silly.
